RECIPE: Croque Croissant; Smoked Ham & Cheese

The creme de la crème of Ham & Cheese Croissants. This savoury sandwich creation features our famous LUXE Bakery Croissant, smoked ham, three types of cheese and a heavenly creamy Dijon and Bechamel filling.

INGREDIENTS

Bechamel sauce;

  • 15g Butter

  • 25g Plain Flour

  • 240ml Milk

  • 15g Parmesan

  • 1 Tsp Salt

  • 1 Tsp Pepper

  • Pinch of Nutmeg

  • 2 x Luxe croissants

  • 2x Slices smoked ham

  • 4 x Slices Jarlsberg cheese

  • 2 Tsp Dijon mustard

  • ¼ Grated parmesan

  • ¼ Grated gruyere cheese

  • 1 cup Bechamel sauce

METHOD

Croque Croissant
  1. Make your Bechamel sauce: to do this melt your 15g butter on medium heat until sizzling. Add 25g flour and stir for 1-2 minutes until combines. Remove from heat, add 240ml milk, whisking until the mixture is smooth. Bring back to heat and stir with wooden spoon for 5-10 minutes, or until it thickens. Remove from heat and stir in 15g parmesan, salt, pepper and nutmeg.

  2. Cut 2 LUXE Bakery croissants in half.

  3. Slather the bottom half of each croissant in Béchamel sauce.

  4. Place one piece of Jarlsberg cheese on top; folding/cut to fit.

  5. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on top of the cheese.

  6. Place ham on top of the mustard; folding/cut to fit.

  7. Spread the top of the ham with another thin layer of Dijon mustard.

  8. Top with another slice of Jarlsberg cheese

  9. Lightly pan fry the completed croissant; starting with the top side first before flipping to pan fry the bottom side. Pressing down to flatten out a little.

  10. Finally, spread a tablespoon of your Bechamel sauce on top of the croissant and sprinkle with the grated parmesan and gruyere cheese (and a little salt and pepper, to taste).

  11. Place under the grill in your oven until the cheese on top is bubbling.

  12. Serve fresh and hot.
